color theory (class 1)

My 9 year old daughter Elsie is always up for a creative challenge. She is a maker and doer at heart! When I enrolled for the Color Theory class, I had no idea I would invite Elsie to join me in the lessons. Well, last night was our first class and we had such a good time creating together. PS- They've extended enrollment! Sign up by March 13th at 11:59pm EST. We learned about the Impasto Paint Technique, here's our results. Elsie's negative and positives of the painting.  IMG_4006The class calls for a Silhouette machine and since I don't have one, I used some of my old KI Memories Lace paper. I did borrow one from Amy though, so I am excited to get practicing in the next few weeks!  Close up of Elsie's negative. SO PRETTY and gunky and all that texture! We definitely loved all the smearing without worrying process πŸ™‚ The lifting up and revealing is also pretty cool. IMG_4007Mine. We used some old shipping chipboard as our backdrop which was perfect as it's super sturdy for our goopy paint! I was so excited when I woke up this morning to them all dry. It just feels good to feel like you are a real painter :)

IMG_4009My finished layout. I don't know what Elsie will do with her pieces, I'll post whenever she gets them done. I ended up using the negative piece for my layout, the whole entire chipboard and all! I will try and add the positive image on another project. I may have missed the whole point of that lesson as most people used the positive impasto technique part but I went this way. And that's okay. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

IMG_4010I used bits from the current Studio Calico Odyssey kit,  Calypso kit, Penelope kit, the Laina Alpha Stamp set, and some Printable digital elements by Hello Forever

I loved that I could get messy with this layout and not worry about smudges and mistakes. That swish of paint under SWING title was not on purpose! πŸ™‚ Looking forward to more lessons with Wilna and more happy mistakes!

Odyssey Sneaks (studiocalico)

How is it almost MARCH already!? 2015 is zooming by, sigh. I was tickled to have a layout on the official Sneak of Odyssey Kits!  Awwww, it had to be a Jonathan Canlas photo of course! :) Odysneak

Here's some of my other sneaks! That patterned paper! I want it in a blanket, a top, a cardigan, everything! πŸ™‚

These are all a mix of the addons, the scrapbook kit and some digital embellishments. My faves! I've been having fun with those and will be posting a separate post for some of the things I've been making!

Presale is a subscriber-only event that starts at noon EST on the 27th. This is when subscribers have a chance to purchase the next month’s kits and add-ons before they become available to the general public. The full Reveal starts at midnight EST on the 27th (technically 12:00 am EST on the 28th), and this is when the kits and add-ons become available to everyone. Hope you can join us!

I loved this kit so much! There were so many pieces that just screamed happy to me! I love the pop of yellow that made it into the kit too.

month 1 and thoughts about diving back in

AllofmeIt's reveal day! So today is my first time contributing to the reveal at Studio Calico.  When I first received my kit, I was giddy about diving in. I slowly unpackaged everything, fondled it all, then put it back away. I did this about 3 separate times until I realized I needed to just dive back in. To say I was intimidated was an understatement. I feel like the scrapbooking industry has changed so much. While I was immersed in it for 10 straight years, I took a hiatus for the last 3 years. Lots of changes took place and I found myself wondering if I had changed at all or if I was still stuck in 2011.  FranciscoOne of the reasons I had taken a break from scrapbooking was my need for privacy for my kids as they were getting older. Though I still struggle with that and go back and forth on it, I definitely found myself witholding during my journaling this time around. Journaling is one of my favorite things and one of the things I treasure most about scrapbooking. I realize that these pages were baby steps and that I know as time goes by I will be able to journal more openly.

Yesatreat DayswellspentI'm so thankful for this opportunity and look forward to this year of kits I get to play with! I really loved this Far Far Away kit. It's whimisical and fun, perfect way to start off the New Year! Besides this layout, I made a few Christmas gifts that I gave away, I'll be posting them here next week.
