our girl

She's discovered a love for blogging! It's been a fun experience to watch her grow, I found an old scrapbook page about how she wanted to be a food network start when she was about 12 years old. She has certainly been influenced by that cool community and is now blogging about her own food journey! She also developed her very first cookbook, Freshman 15, Healthy Eats for Students Away From Home. You can download it for free at her site, www.kikicuisine.com :)

Though she is still home with us, I am so glad to have her here as much as I can before she is officially out. The thought of her not here makes my heart hurt in ways I am not quite able to grasp yet. But I know that day will come, sooner than later. At least I'll get to keep up with her via her blog :)

don’t judge a soup by its texture

my husband is a vegetarian and the rest of us aren't. he's probably the easiest vegetarian I know though. I can make him anything and he's usually pretty happy. last night I noticed I had a plethora of sweet potatoes. I roasted them and some cauliflower, threw it in the food processor with a little veggie broth and a dash of half and half and called it done. he was hesitant when he saw the baby food resemblance but devoured and thanked me for his new favorite soup. this was mine with a dollop of cream and basil. his had red pepper flakes and a fresh shave of parmesan atop. yum.

food heaven friday

a spur of the moment dinner out with the hubby and his brother…went to a new spot for us (Diablo in silverlake- hipster tacos so good I could cry thinking back on them- pork belly, hello!) and celebrated a 2year birthday of one of my absolute fave spots in la- the piehole. as always the banana cream pie did not disappoint.
here's to random nights out and good food. I'll daydream about those foods while I cook all week. 🙂

too much stuff

I walked into elsie's class this morning and laughed at her writing piece. I'm always nagging her about her pack rat ways, though it's incredibly hard for her to get rid of stuff, it's nice to know she acknowledges it. I think she added the 'to do' part to show the difference between to and too…don't think that's supposed to be there. I try to get rid of bits while she's at school but you know all hell will break loose when she looks for that one thing I threw out.

15th anniversary getaway

chris is so good at making us a priority. when our 15 year came up he jumped on the opportunity to take me to the sanitarium in San Luis Obispo. I guess i never stayed at a B&B before- I was pleasantly surprised at how quaint, clean and charming this spot was. we had a lovely time walking around town, eating tapas and exploring. as our kids are getting older and will slowly start leaving home, we understand the importance of continually connecting, maintaining US. he is not only my best and truest friend but I could not imagine a better partner to journey through life with. he's down to earth and honest, humble and wise, yet filled with the roller coaster of feelings I have learned to appreciate over the years. he and I balance each other out…just a good match. not perfect but always striving and learning. I am so content and so thankful.

Elsie

woke up minutes ago. I was on the couch with coffee and my book and saw her head pop up thru her doorway. she said, it’s so nice not to wake up early. I couldn’t agree more. then she comes to the couch to cuddle me and after a few minutes says, I cannot sit next to you when you drink coffee. peeyou. and walks away. there goes that moment.
lol

here we gooo again!

last night we pored over this dear ol blog and we reminisced. so much has changed within the last few years, no way can I catch up. I discovered I can blog from my phone…being that I primarily use my phone for pix this makes it ultra convenient. I'm practicing today at the Getty. 🙂 since I have over 1500 pix on my Instagram account and I fear it might get deleted one day out of nowhere, maybe I will attempt to post here more. I have tried to close this blog many times, I've tried to turn it into a book, unsuccessfully doing either. so here we go again….giving it another shot via my phone.

I guess I can only post 5 pix at a time thru the app and the dimensions are all wacky. gotta figure that out but it will do for now. any typepadder's that blog via the app, tips?

music and light

Chris got this Lomokino as a gift from our clients, yesterday was his first try at the camera and I love the results 🙂 Hope he gets addicted so I get more videos to treasure! When Elsie watched it for the first time, she said, the music and the light are just perfect together 🙂 love that. she's right.

elevennnnn

Our little buddy turned 11 a few weeks ago. I'm a bit behind on posting but it's probably good since he's really blossomed in the last few weeks and has really taken to being 11. he's always been a huge home body, not into team sports, just watching. not into big adventures, more like quiet ones. his 3rd grade teacher is els' kindergarten teacher now and yesterday she asked me, is caleb being challenged in 5th grade? i told her he is but with turning 11, i said that his social circle is enlarging, (just like the other 2 older ones started as the same age. something about 5th grade where the social life sparks) and he's finding balance in it all. which is a good thing. he normally can't find a book series long enough to keep his interest. he's ready the entire harry potter series numerous times. he's currently reading the steve jobs biography. he loves cars, basketball and he still loves snuggles. happy birthday buddy! xooxox
