she is so used to working with just 3 fingers of her right hand. she puts the other 2 in her mouth, so she knows to keep them up like that when she's in public, trying to keep them germfree. πŸ™‚

snickerdoodles. onions. breakfast. tea. even brussel sprouts. these are all examples of things I didn't like when i was younger, but as i got older (and wiser) i slowly started to like these things more. i love telling these little factoids to the kids, 'oh one day you'll like it. believe me….' for instance: snickerdoodles- i'm just not a big sugar cookie person. i need other things of sugar goodness in there to make me satisfied, ie chocolate or caramel. but then i tried a different recipe and i think they turned out awesome. note that there aren't cookie pics after they were baked. they were devoured too quick!

tea. okay geez, it's not like real australian tea, it's chocolate mint. hahaha. but i do love it and i am so glad that dots cupcakes introduced it to me. i'll even drink a green tea mint. πŸ˜‰ onions. used to hate them. over time and with plenty of innout burgers, i began to have them grilled. now i love them raw even. πŸ™‚ just depends on my mood. breakfast. i would go to school every morning against my mom's requests to eat breakfast. i just don't like breakfast food. but lately i'm so into eggs over easy with garlic fried rice. i could eat that every morning and i firmly believe my days will go by smoother πŸ™‚ that being since jelly filled donuts are totally unreasonable on a daily basis. πŸ˜‰ brussel sprouts. this one's a stretch but has to be doused in butter and herbs. and i won't make them. they have to come from someone else's kitchen and resemble nothing like the brussel sprout in it's normal state. πŸ™‚ i still stand very firmly on my inabilities to eat spicy food though. πŸ˜‰

there you go. my afternoon of baking with elsie transformed this whole post into a favorite parenting phrase of mine, 'one day you'll like it'. πŸ™‚

  1. It’s so true. I used to hate mustard & now that is all I have on my sandwich. I love coffee without sugar or syrups. Brussel Sprouts ….I don’t know. I still think I can’t eat them. Love you! See you soon!

  2. I completely went through all those tastebud changes as I matured, as well. Does everyone? I don’t know. I used to hate onions, mushrooms, salmon, and so many other things. I basically lived on carbs. Now my favorite way to eat onion is sliced into rings, salted, and put on the grill in a vegetable tray. They’re so smoky and the best onion flavor ever!

  3. Great post and really wonderful photos. Just gorgeous.
We actually let the stinkers make pancakes the other day, all by themselves. Went really well. Surprisingly well even. (ok 2 disclaimers: we were very nearby and listening intently to the whole process (“spying??”). and #2 they were Batter Blaster instant pancakes. but still – pretty good!)
Cooking together is one of our fave things as well. Thanks again for this post!
    Happy Holidays

  4. I used to hate Brussels sprouts too — but I sautee a sweet onion and then partially steam some frozen Hanover-brand petite baby sprouts and then finish them up in a pan with olive oil and onion and salt and lemon pepper — and then I will deglaze the pan with white wine. Very tasty. Oh, and sometimes I throw just a handful of real bacon bits in with the onion and sweat out the bacon flavor all over those sprouts! Also good!
    Love your blog — truly!
